I almost didn’t start this blog. Despite this persistent feeling that I had a unique perspective to share, I just kept hearing thoughts inside my head saying “there’s so many travel and wellness bloggers out there. Why do you think there’s any point in you trying to start something.”
But then something important happened. I just kinda realized I don’t care about those negative thoughts. And I am not doing this for anyone else’s sake, so here goes.
Like I said, I do think I have a unique perspective to share. Since the first time I flew on a plane to visit my Aunt in Seattle, WA in seventh grade, I knew I loved to travel. And with the first lick of authentic Italian gelato on my first time out of the country in Florence, Italy in high school, the travel bug was in full force. I’m talking full speed, out of the train station, off and never coming back in kind of stuff. Since then, travel – for fun, for volunteering, for work – has been one of the most important things to me. It is what fuels my soul and lights it on fire.
The importance of travel and missions as a way to explore and broaden horizons was what we spent the whole night talking about the first time I met my husband. When we have children, we want to show them the world from Day 1, and have no plans of letting family get in the way of world travel. In fact, we hope it fuels us more.
Like a lot of people, I’ve been inspired by the people and families who “sell everything to travel the world.” And maybe, sometimes, part of me thinks that would be fun.
But here’s the thing. I actually love my job. A lot. I dreamed about being a doctor from the time I was a little girl, and being an anesthesiologist is such a privilege, and something I don’t necessarily want to abandon, as some people do with their careers, when they leave everything behind to travel.
And so I felt like there was a gap I could fill, and share my perspective as I actively pursue travel and adventure as something much more than just the occasional casual vacation, while also STILL continuing to work a full time (+ some) job that I honestly love.
So that’s what I’m here to do in the travel aspect of this blog, show you examples in my own experience of how you can enjoy travel more, while also still enjoying a job that you love. Thanks for joining me!
